My first reaction to the cover was, oh, that's cool and then I moved on. I'm glad Lassal asked this qutosien, though, because it prompted me to go back and study the DEAD MONEY cover more carefully. After a more careful look, I counted nine different elements in this cover that all convey what kind of book it is, all working together smoothly to suggest genre, subgenre, mood, setting, and even pacing, all of which are conveyed to the reader in a second or two, without him or her even knowing all the information was loaded into his or her mind. FWIW, I think if you're studying covers to try to learn how to do them right (as I'm trying to do) this is a really good example to look at.
